How do I calculate plant spacing?
Plant spacing determines how many plants fit in a bed while giving each one enough room for roots, sunlight, and airflow. Spacing too tightly can lead to competition for nutrients and increased disease risk, while spacing too wide wastes valuable growing space.
This calculator assumes a grid layout, placing plants at even intervals across both the length and width of your bed. For most vegetables and annuals, the seed packet or plant tag will list a recommended spacing in inches.
